A fill-in-the-blank framework for combining traditional SEO with Generative Engine Optimisation. Plan how your business can stay visible in both search rankings and AI-generated answers.

What this tool does

Helps you decide where to invest your search visibility effort - traditional SEO (ranking in Google's blue links), GEO (appearing in AI-generated answers from Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity), or both. Input your business type, target keywords, and current visibility, and it outputs a prioritised strategy recommendation.

SEO vs. GEO: the practical difference

SEO optimises for ranking in the traditional "10 blue links." GEO optimises for being cited in AI-generated summaries that increasingly appear above those links. The distinction matters because they reward slightly different content characteristics: SEO rewards keyword relevance, backlinks, and technical optimisation. GEO rewards factual accuracy, clear structure, original data or expertise, and content that answers questions directly rather than building to an answer.

For most businesses in 2025, the right answer is "both" - the tactics overlap significantly. But if you're resource-constrained, the choice depends on your query type: navigational and transactional queries ("buy running shoes Melbourne") still favour traditional rankings. Informational queries ("how often should I service my car") are increasingly answered by AI summaries where GEO matters more.
