Keep your projects running smoothly with Hedgehog’s Task Brief Template. This tool allows you to clearly communicate the details of individual tasks, including goals, timelines, and specific responsibilities. Whether you’re managing a large project or a series of smaller tasks, this template ensures that everyone is on the same page and knows exactly what is expected of them, reducing confusion and improving efficiency.
What's in this template
A task brief template for delegating work to team members, contractors, or AI tools - covering the objective, deliverable, context, constraints, deadline, and definition of done. Designed to prevent the most common briefing failures: unclear outcomes, missing context, and ambiguous success criteria.
The briefing failure that wastes the most time
Unclear definition of done. "Write a blog post about Google Ads" is an instruction, not a brief. A brief specifies: what is the post for (which page, which audience), what keyword it targets, how long it should be, what tone to use, what it should link to, and what "done" looks like before it leaves the person you briefed. Without a definition of done, you get work back that's technically completed but not what you needed.
Good briefs vs. detailed briefs
A good brief is the minimum information needed to do the work correctly without back-and-forth. That's not the same as a long brief. Overly detailed briefs that specify every micro-decision remove the room for the person executing to make good judgement calls - and they take longer to write than the task takes to complete. Write enough to remove ambiguity. Leave the execution decisions to the person executing.
